Radiux and Web 3.0

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

Just as the term "Web 2.0" enters into the mainstream, the brains behind the World Wide Web are introducing pieces of the ‘Semantic Web’ which may end up being called Web 3.0.

The term ‘Web 2.0′ decribes an Internet that is even more interactive, customized, social and media-intensive than the one of a decade ago.

"Twenty years from now, we’ll look back and say this was the embryonic period," said Tim Berners-Lee, who established the main principles that guide the Web in 1989 with colleagues at CERN, the European science institute.

Berners-Lee and others are working on the the semantic web which is an evolving extension of the World Wide Web in which web content can be expressed not only in natural language, but also in a format that can be read and used by software agents (bots and spiders), thus permitting them to find, share and integrate information more easily.

At its core, the semantic web comprises a philosophy, a set of design principles, collaborative working groups, and a variety of enabling technologies. Some elements of the semantic web are expressed as prospective future possibilities that have yet to be implemented or realized. Other elements of the semantic web are expressed in formal specifications.

Radiux develoeprs are following the development very closely and have already integrated several ‘Web 3.’ standards into the directory systems of Radiux.com.
